The story of the tortoise and the hare

Version 1
Once upon a time a tortoise and a hare had an argument about who was faster. They decided to settle the argument with a race. They agreed on a route and started off the race. The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time. Then seeing that he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he'd sit under a tree for some time and relax before continuing the race. He sat under the tree and soon fell asleep. The tortoise plodding on overtook him and soon finished the race, emerging as the undisputed champ. The hare woke up and realised that he'd lost the race.

The moral of the story is that slow and steady wins the race.

Version 2
The hare was disappointed at losing the race and he did some Defect Prevention (Root Cause Analysis). He realised that he'd lost the race only because he had been overconfident, careless and lax. If he had not taken things for granted, there's no way the tortoise could have beaten him. So he challenged the tortoise to another race. The tortoise agreed. This time, the hare went all out and ran without stopping from start to finish. He won by several miles.

The moral of the story? Fast and consistent will always beat the slow and steady. If you have two people in your organisation, one slow, methodical and reliable, and the other fast and still reliable at what he does, the fast and reliable chap will consistently climb the organisational ladder faster than the slow, methodical chap. It's good to be slow and steady; but it's better to be fast and reliable.

Version 3
The tortoise did some thinking this time, and realised that there's no way he can beat the hare in a race the way it was currently formatted. He thought for a while, and then challenged the hare to another race, but on a slightly different route. The hare agreed. They started off. In keeping with his self-made commitment to be consistently fast, the hare took off and ran at top speed until he came to a broad river. The finishing line was a couple of kilometers on the other side of the river. The hare sat there wondering what to do. In the meantime the tortoise trundled along, got into the river, swam to the opposite bank, continued walking and finished the race.

The moral of the story? First identify your core competency and then change the playing field to suit your core competency. In an organisation, if you are a good speaker, make sure you create opportunities to give presentations that enable the senior management to notice you. If your strength is analysis, make sure you do some sort of research, make a report and send it upstairs. Working to your strengths will not only get you noticed but will also create opportunities for growth and advancement.

Version 4
The hare and the tortoise, by this time, had become pretty good friends and they did some thinking together. Both realised that the last race could have been run much better. So they decided to do the last race again, but to run as a team this time. They started off, and this time the hare carried the tortoise till the riverbank. There, the tortoise took over and swam across with the hare on his back. On the opposite bank, the hare again carried the tortoise and they reached the finishing line together. They both felt a greater sense of satisfaction than they'd felt earlier.

The moral of the story? It's good to be individually brilliant and to have strong core competencies; but unless you're able to work in a team and harness each other's core competencies, you'll always perform below par because there will always be situations at which you'll do poorly and someone else does well.

Teamwork is mainly about situational leadership, letting the person with the relevant core competency for a situation take leadership.

Note that neither the hare nor the tortoise gave up after failures. The hare decided to work harder and put in more effort after his failure.

The tortoise changed his strategy because he was already working as hard as he could. In life, when faced with failure, sometimes it is appropriate to work harder and put in more effort.

Sometimes it is appropriate to change strategy and try something different. And sometimes it is appropriate to do both.

The hare and the tortoise also learnt another vital lesson. When we stop competing against a rival and instead start competing against the situation, we perform far better.

Saw this story , thought it would be interesting =D

Difference between a good guy and a nice guy

A good guy has a backbone, a nice guy is spineless.

A good guy is honest even if it means hurting your feelings, a nice guy will lie to save you pain.

A good guy does good things just for the sake of it, a nice guy wants a reward for doing good things

A good guy will fight to uphold what he thinks is good, a nice guy always wants peace so will compromise his principles to make peace.

LYRICS

I read a note my grandma wrote back in nineteen twenty-three.
Grandpa kept it in his coat, and he showed it once to me. He said,
"Boy, you might not understand, but a long, long time ago,
Grandma's daddy didn't like me none, but I loved your Grandma so."

We had this crazy plan to meet and run away together.
Get married in the first town we came to, and live forever.
But nailed to the tree where we were supposed to meet, instead
Of her, I found this letter, and this is what it said:

If you get there before I do, don't give up on me.
I'll meet you when my chores are through;
I don't know how long I'll be.
But I'm not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again,
I'll be loving you. Love, me.

I read those words just hours before my Grandma passed away,
In the doorway of a church where me and Grandpa stopped to pray.
I know I'd never seen him cry in all my fifteen years;
But as he said these words to her, his eyes filled up with tears.

If you get there before I do, don't give up on me.
I'll meet you when my chores are through;
I don't know how long I'll be.
But I'm not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again,
I'll be loving you. Love, me.
Between now and then, till I see you again,
I'll be loving you. Love, me.

Today, It finally dawned upon me that , maybe for the past few weeks, I've been trying too hard to be something thats not me. Maybe its time to step back and relax, stop trying to be so enthu, so dramatic, and just be myself. Probably people would appreciate that more. I still dont quite know how thats supposed to work out, but I guess I'll have to figure out soon enough.

The above video was made in 2007, who got attached to this guy and after 28months together, made the video to commerate their 28months togther. Which I think is really nice. And from the comments 2weeks ago. It seems like they are still going strong. Seriously , I feel really happy for them, to have found each other online and are able to last till now even, 6+ years. I'd admit, sometimes I wonder when it'll be my turn to get such a sweet and caring girl. I'm sure everyone does. And I hope I'll cherish her like no tomorrow.

Elmo has been really busy and troubled lately. I really wonder why sometimes. I really hope that god will help her with her problems, giving her an easier time. She seems really strong, at times even stronger me. But even the strongest people have weak times right? And I dont want her to crumble. I really wish that we could have more time to talk to each other. But schedules clash and whatnot. Stay strong okay girl! I'll be waiting for u at the finish line =)

Happy new year everyone =).
ME knows its late =)

Steve has no hair =o

NTPS students trying to "lift" a tennis ball off the cup. Aganotising much.

Shuffeling also by NTPS students, they cant get off the board and thus must work together to move across planks . I gave them a tough one, asking them to arrange themselves according to the Days in their Birthdays =)

One of the kites we saw at the showroom. It was a messy place, and there were huge kites, like one 72m KING COBRA =o

My kite in the sky. That little DOT right there. Can you see it?

We went to malaysia for dinner that day,Sambal Kang kong, Stingray, Apple prawns. Yum Yum, food glarore, at a relatively cheap price =D

The day before christmas, my mum brought us to grand corptorn for their lunch buffet, it was awesome, the fish were fresh, the seafood was great and there was quite a huge variety. ME is happy =)

Every single day before christmas for the week, I was either at orchard, NEX or vivo. Some of the prett-aye decorations they put up

The Awesome Log cake From Grand Corptorne, Rum and Rasin with Chocolate, So rich, Oh so dreamy ~~ And its the 2nd log cake for the christmas season =)

See how pretty it is? Me and my sister were at Suntec getting last minute gifts for our parents and some friends, then we saw a woman carrying a log cake. Then my sister said, "wow kor, Log cake lei, so jealous. But then I'm sure our one looks nicer =)" . I went LOL when I heard that.

Another close up peekture of the Christmas Log Cake =)

Me is gonna be fat soon. Christmas night, there was chicken, there was Chilli Crabs, and so many awesome dishes for christmas dinner, then like 4 hours later , there was the Christmas Log Cake and THIS! Tbe sushi platter, apparently my aunt believed that we were growing people and thus needed to eat more. By the end of the day, at 4am, i was stuffed to the max. Went to bed with a full stomach, So gonna get fat soon =(

After Christmas, I met my friend, this girl, who came back from Australia for the holidays. Shes usually alot fairer, except that she went to Bintan... Again. With all honesty years ago, I thought she was malay because of her skin tone back then, after Bintan, this time she got smarter, used sunblock. That was awkward. And , for the record. Im perfectly happy with malays.

Here is the one who tried to ninja some sneak peektures of us. But failed horribly of course. She didnt know about this picture until much later . Then it got funny, my friend, suddenly asked for random hugs for all of us. We were stunned . then she actually hugged all of us. LOL.

On a side note. Im sure Elmo must be going like, Sigh FOOD AGAIN. ALWAYS FOOD. Its not my fault okays! We humans have a natural perogative for Food. By the way. Thanks =)

No man is an island. Everyone needs support when they fall. I hope I get the chance to too.
